A new customer, specializing in automotive seat components, signed a contract with an equipment supplier to introduce an automated welding production line in order to improve product precision and production capacity. Initially, the customer had high expectations for the supplier's technical guidance—the implementation of such customized equipment directly relies on professional technical support for rapid mass production, and the customer even pre-assigned three core technical personnel to be on standby. However, the lack of subsequent technical guidance completely turned these expectations into dissatisfaction, and production implementation stalled.
The seeds of problems were sown in the early technical briefing: the supplier only completed technical coordination through one online meeting, with the instructors simply reading product specifications from a PowerPoint presentation, completely failing to consider the customer's workshop layout, the voltage load of the existing production line, and other practical factors. When the customer's technical team raised questions such as "how to adapt core welding parameters to the customer's existing seat materials" and "how to integrate the equipment with surrounding quality inspection equipment," the response was always "just follow the instructions," leaving the customer personnel with no concept of the implementation plan and forced to wait for on-site debugging.
During the on-site debugging phase after delivery, problems erupted. The supplier's assigned instructor had only six months of industry experience and was completely unprepared for the specific limitations of the customer's workshop (insufficient ceiling height, requiring equipment installation angle adjustments). After installation according to theoretical parameters, the equipment frequently experienced positioning deviations, and for two consecutive days, it was impossible to weld qualified samples. During this period, the customer's operators repeatedly inquired about emergency operating procedures, but the instructor either gave irrelevant answers or required an hour to report to headquarters before providing a vague response. Due to the employees' improper operation, 20 semi-finished products were scrapped, resulting in a direct loss of approximately 18,000 yuan.

The most frustrating aspect for the customer was the lack of technical response. On the third day of equipment commissioning stall, the customer's production manager urgently contacted the supplier to request additional senior technical personnel. However, the supplier delayed, citing that "the entire technical team is on-site at the project site." Only the following day did they arrange for a remote technician to connect, but this technician, unfamiliar with the customer's site conditions, was unable to provide an effective solution. By this time, the customer had missed a deadline for supplying a certain OEM due to the production line commissioning delay, facing a penalty of 120,000 yuan. Their internal monthly production plan was also forced to be shelved, requiring the temporary outsourcing of 300 orders and incurring an additional 80,000 yuan in outsourcing costs.
The lack of follow-up further escalated the conflict. The customer repeatedly sent a list of technical requirements requesting supplementary guidance from the supplier, but the supplier only replied, "Archived, will be processed later," with no response even after a week. Ultimately, the customer's technical team had to consult the equipment manual and contact third-party technicians, spending 10 days completing the commissioning and optimization, increasing the yield rate from the initial 62% to 95%. Throughout this process, the supplier provided no substantial technical support.
While the client hasn't terminated the cooperation, they have clearly stated that all future collaborations will prioritize evaluating the supplier's technical service capabilities, and have adjusted the payment schedule—paying only 30% of the equipment cost, with the remaining 70% due three months after the new production line has stabilized and entered mass production. This production disruption caused by inadequate technical guidance not only resulted in a direct loss of nearly 220,000 yuan for the client but also completely shattered the foundation of trust between the two parties, leaving the supplier with a negative image in the industry of "prioritizing sales over service." For new clients, technical guidance is the bridge connecting product and production capacity; its absence not only consumes upfront investment costs but also undermines the foundation of long-term cooperation.
