Due to delays in parts supply, long-term clients have chosen to terminate their partnerships.

Parts Supply Delays: A Hidden Industry Concern for Long-Term Customer TerminationIn sectors highly dependent on the stability of parts supply, such as equipment manufacturing, construction machinery, and automotive aftermarket, the termination of long-term partnerships due to parts delays has become a frequent industry phenomenon in recent years. Behind this seemingly "broken traditional relationship" lies a deep-seated weakness in core capabilities of the supply chain system, such as parts delivery efficiency and responsiveness, and it also serves as a warning for sustainable collaboration models in related industries.

From a rough statistical analysis of industry cases, a domestic heavy machinery manufacturer has terminated partnerships with three parts suppliers with durations exceeding six years since 2022. 90% of these terminations were attributed to "delayed delivery of core wear parts leading to production line shutdowns." Similarly, in the domestic construction machinery aftermarket parts market, over 70% of long-term customer attrition is directly related to suppliers' unmet parts delivery timeliness—the initial foundation of these customers' partnerships relied on stable parts supply capabilities, but ultimately, due to continuous delivery delays, they opted for faster-responding alternative suppliers.

The lag in spare parts supply often exhibits a "systemic rather than accidental" characteristic: on the one hand, there is the loss of control over delivery cycles, with some general spare parts experiencing delivery times exceeding 30% of the contractual agreement, and key customized parts even seeing delays of 45 days after ordering; on the other hand, there is an imbalance in inventory matching, with some suppliers maintaining extremely low safety stock levels to reduce costs, resulting in a lack of stock when downstream customers urgently need spare parts, while general spare parts accumulate indefinitely. This "either slow or scarce" supply situation directly impacts the operational logic of long-term customers—for customers who rely on spare parts for production or maintenance, a shortage of parts means production line shutdowns, equipment maintenance delays, and consequently, a chain reaction of losses such as order defaults and decreased customer satisfaction.

The termination of cooperation by long-term customers is essentially a "collapse of trust" rather than "dissatisfaction from a single incident." Long-term customers have often established stable demand coordination, quality assurance, and even emotional connections during the cooperation process; the probability of terminating cooperation due to a single problem is extremely low. However, when the lag in spare parts supply evolves from an occasional problem into a continuous systemic risk, the losses of long-term customers will gradually exceed the implicit costs of "maintaining the old relationship." An executive from a construction machinery OEM frankly admitted, "A parts supplier we've worked with for eight years experienced 12 production line shutdowns last year due to parts delays, with each incident resulting in a loss of nearly one million yuan. Even the strongest long-standing relationships can't withstand such a cost."This phenomenon reflects how some parts suppliers, in their pursuit of large-scale expansion or cost control, have neglected the importance of "supply stability" as a core competitive advantage. When industry demand fluctuates, some suppliers either suffer from insufficient capacity allocation or logistical disruptions, ultimately shifting the risk to downstream customers. The loss of long-term customers is also driving a new collaborative logic within the industry: in current partnerships, "on-time delivery rate" and "inventory response speed" have replaced "years of cooperation" as the core indicators considered by customers.

In the context of increasingly close industrial collaboration, parts supply delays are no longer merely an internal problem for suppliers, but a critical node directly impacting the entire supply chain. The cases of long-term customers terminating cooperation serve as a implicit warning to the industry about supply chain problems such as "emphasizing scale over efficiency" and "emphasizing cost over reliability," prompting more upstream and downstream entities to re-evaluate the value of "long-term stable supply" for the industrial ecosystem.
